Notre Dame endured a slow start in Thursday’s win over Penn State, but was opportunistic to keep the game close in the first half and saw its offense come to life in third and fourth quarters. The Fighting Irish scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, got a key interception on Penn State quarterback Drew Allar late in the final quarter, and scored the winning field goal with 10 seconds remaining.

Notre Dame’s Riley Leonard did the job with his legs in leading his team with 80 rushing yards, and he connected with Jaden Greathouse on a 54-yard touchdown to tie the game at 24-24 with 4:38 left. Kicker Mitch Jeter sealed the win with a 41-yard field goal after the Irish got set up with a short field on Allar’s first interception of the game.
Ohio State played through all kinds of doubts and down turns in the 2024 season with two losses in the regular season, including a fourth straight in the annual rivalry game with the Michigan Wolverines. But the Buckeyes demonstrated clearly throughout a 10-2 campaign that they had the upside of a national champion, and they earned the right to prove it with College Football Playoff victories over No. 9 Tennessee (42-17) in the first round, No. 1 Oregon (41-21) in the quarterfinals, and No. 5 Texas (28-14) in the semis. The Buckeyes opened the week as 8-point favorites to beat the Irish.
The Buckeyes and Fighting Irish are set for a 7:30 p.m. ET start on ESPN. Live streams are available from FuboTV (trial here), DirecTV Stream (trial here) and SlingTV (low rate).
